Isramart : New Jersey energy company installs solar panels to lower carbon footprint

Isramart news:
Separate facilities owned by South Jersey Industries are reaping the benefits of solar panel installations, the energy provider said this week.

SJI and its subsidiaries provide natural gas to commercial and residential customers. Two SJI sites - the corporate headquarters in Folsom and a liquid natural gas facility in McKee City - have just switched on their solar power systems.

McKee City's system generates 651 kilowatts of electricity and comprises 2,772 panels; the 886,000 kilowatt-hours of energy it generates annually will help power the plant. The system at SJI's headquarters is roof-mounted and provides 50 kilowatts of energy for the building.

SJI subsidiary South Jersey Energy Solutions installed the panels. "These projects will allow South Jersey Industries to save money on their electric rates and contribute to a sustainable energy future," said SJES COO Mike Renna.

New Jersey has set ambitious renewable energy targets. The state's Clean Energy Program will receive $269 million in new funding next year for energy efficiency incentives and solar panel rebates, among other projects. Solar panel installations in Energy Star homes will receive $1.50 or $1.75 per watt, an increase for 2009's allowance.
