Isramart: UK’s low carbon capabilities analysed

The UK’s automotive industry has been assessed to see how capable it will be at coping with the transition towards a low carbon economy.

Launched by the Technology Strategy Board, ‘Automotive technologies: The UK’s current capability’ highlights areas in which the UK’s automotive industry is thriving.

It also looks at the sectors which will require some assistance in the move towards a low carbon industry.

Commenting on the report, Paul Everitt, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), said: “This report demonstrates that the UK motor industry is well set to exploit the transition to ultra low carbon vehicles.

“It has the skills, capabilities and technological strengths that are required for success. Industry is committed to low carbon technology, investing in research and development, product testing and world-class production facilities.”

According to the SMMT, the UK’s car manufacturing industry is the world’s second largest premium car producer and a leading engine manufacturer, making it a key focus for the future direction of the low carbon vehicle sector.
