Isramart: Malaysian Media Co To Reduce Carbon Footprint

Star Publications (M) Bhd, one of Malaysia’s leading media companies, will now seek to reduce its carbon footprint through a few simple measures.

According to group managing director and chief executive officer, Linda Ngiam, staff of the company are encourged to:

• switch off lights, air-conditioners and computers when not in use
• drive less
• reduce water usage
• reduce use of plastic items
• use the staircase instead of lifts

At the recent launch of The Star’s Go Green campaign, she was quoted as saying:

Our target is to reduce water and electricity usage by 10% by Earth Day (April 22) next year.

According to a news report, the company spends RM170,000 on water, electricity and Indah Water bills per month at Menara Star.

Ngiam was also reported to have said that each department would also have its respective eco-warden to remind their colleagues about power-saving measures. According to the report, the campaign is a year-long affair in a bid to reduce the company’s water and electricity usage by 10% by Earth Day (April 22) next year.
