Isramart: Low carbon commitment from London Underground

Isramart news:
London Underground has formed a partnership with 10:10 in a bid to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions.

Ten of London’s tube stations will work with the group to cut their emissions by ten per cent by the end of the year.

A “host of carbon-cutting measures” were to be rolled out across the stations from today (June 10th).

These include simple changes, such as turning off escalators during off-peak hours and not using any unnecessary lighting.

Eugenie Harvey, campaign director for 10:10 in the UK, commented: “The London Underground is truly iconic and such a crucial part of life in London, ferrying millions of people around the city every day.

“We’re so happy to have them on board – reducing carbon emissions is, literally, as everyday as catching the tube.”

The underground network has already installed a regenerative braking system which enables trains to recover electric power during braking which can then be fed back into the electricity supply.

Bank, Liverpool Street, Moorgate, Earls Court, Holborn, Charing Cross, Green Park, Knightsbridge, Hyde Park Corner and Victoria stations are taking part in the scheme.
