Isramart : Businesses can reduce carbon footprint using IT

Isramart news:
Businesses should ensure they do their best to use IT to help reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, according to IT systems provider Fujitsu.

Although there has been considerable focus on how to reduce emissions coming from IT systems themselves, using measures ranging from turning off unused monitors through to investing in more efficient data storage facilities, IT can be used to monitor consumption.

IT training courses could be used to familiarise employees with how to use technology in this way, to the benefit of both the company and the environment.

Juliet Silvester, head of environmental programmes at Fujitsu, said: “If we spend all of our time on reducing the impact of IT, then we are actually addressing a very, very small part of the problem.”

Over £950 million was invested in clean technology systems throughout Europe, India, China and the US in the third quarter of this year, according to figures from Deloitte and Cleantech Group.
