Isramart: NWDA reveals carbon reduction funding

Isramart news:
The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) has revealed that it is to provide funding towards a number of initiatives designed to reduce carbon emissions in the region.

A total of £30 million has been pledged in total, with £10 million set to come from the NWDA and the rest to be provided by the European Regional Development Fund.

Among other projects, research into the development of carbon-reducing technologies is one thing to benefit from the funding.

Bryan Gray, NWDA spokesperson, announced the package of measures today (May 1st) at the Prince of Wales’ May Day Business Summit on Climate Change.

He said that he hopes the funding will put the northwest at the forefront of practical action against climate change.

“In today’s challenging economic climate it is more important than ever before that we are not sidetracked from the government’s agenda to hit its targets for the reduction of greenhouse gases,” Mr Gray added.

In last month’s Budget, chancellor Alistair Darling announced that Britain is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 34 per cent of 1990’s levels by 2020.
