Isra-Mart srl news:

The government has published regional statistics for carbon dioxide emissions in 2008, which show an overall increase in emissions from housing compared to the year before.

Emissions from industry decreased over the same period.

According to the Office for National Statistics report, 260 local authorities (60 per cent of the UK total) experienced an increase in domestic emissions between 2007 and 2008, while only 174 (40 per cent) experienced a decrease.

Energy secretary Chris Huhne acknowledged the importance of controlling emissions from housing in a speech to the Green Alliance earlier this week.

“A quarter of all UK emissions come from the home,” he said. “We use more energy heating our homes than Sweden. The average household spends over £1,300 every year on energy and heating bills. And cold housing has been linked to tens of thousands of deaths every winter.”

But he also said the government’s green deal for homes was the right approach to tackle the problem.

“By allowing householders and businesses to offset the cost of energy improvements and recapture savings made on energy bills, the green deal will save carbon, save energy and save money,” he said.
