Climex, the Dutch emissions trading system, has won a tender to hold two auctions of EU CO2 allowances for The Netherlands this year at a time yet to be specified.
The Dutch ministries of environment and economic affairs appointed Climex and its clearing house, APX BV-Endex to sell 4Mt of allowances in two auctions.
It is expected that the auction rules will be similar to those for the EU ETS Phase 3 sales, which starts in 2013, said Sascha Bloemhoff, Climex commercial director. “It’s an excellent opportunity to practice,” she said.
Climex’s shareholders are Rabobank and TenneT, which manages the Dutch high-voltage energy grid. Climex, formerly known as New Values, was founded in 2003. One year later, the company developed an online trading platform for several environmental products but the company has focused on the CO2 market since 2005.
