The second round of the United Nations Climate Change Talks for 2010 have begun in Bonn, Germany.
The talks, attended by representatives from 182 nations, are designed to pick up on issues that were not resolved in Copenhagen and to pave the way for the full implementation of climate change action across the globe. The talks take place from 31 May – 11 June.
Key working groups and committees will meet to discuss issues such as emissions reductions targets for Annex 1 parties under the Kyoto Protocol and a new negotiating text for the United Nations’ Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Co-operative Action under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
UNFCCC Executive Secretary Yvo de Boer said “The Copenhagen meeting may have postponed an outcome for at least a year, but it did not postpone the impacts of climate change.”
The next UNFCCC negotiating session is scheduled to take place from 2–6 August in Bonn, followed by a one-week meeting before the UN Climate Change Conference, which will run from 29 November – 10 December in Cancún, Mexico.
