The latest BusinessGreen lecture evening will take place at the Wolfson Theatre at the London School of Economics at 6:30pm on Wednesday 16 March and will be hosted in association with risk management firm DNV.

Entitled Preparing for Stormy Weather - Identifying and Managing Climate Risks, the series of short lectures and question-and-answer session will explore the growing climate-related risks many businesses face and ask how executives can effectively manage and reduce those risks.

With Defra minister Lord Henley warning this week that businesses and insurers must step up efforts to address climate risks, and scientific reports demonstrating that businesses could face serious disruption as a result of global warming in the coming decades, the need to develop climate risk management strategies has never been more apparent.

Attendees will hear from Dr Michael G. Sanderson, senior climate consultant at the Met Office, who will provide an introduction to the science of climate change and an update on the latest climate projections for the coming decades, and former climate change adviser to the Association of British Insurers Dr Swenja Surminski, who will offer an insight into how the insurance industry is adapting to climate change.

The lecture evening will also provide information on how businesses are learning to handle rising climate risks through presentations from DNV chief operations officer Bjorn Haugland, and a case study provided by Julian Walker-Palin, head of corporate sustainability at Asda.

The short lectures will be followed by a question-and-answer session and networking drinks reception.
