Isramart : TVs and microwaves emitting CO2 while people holiday

People heading abroad for the summer holidays have been urged to switch off their electronic devices and appliances while they are away.

According to research from energy company E.ON, millions of holidaymakers jet off around the world with their TVs, DVD players, ovens and microwaves still on stand-by.

In the UK alone, this adds £22 million to the cost of summer electricity bills and also generates a significant level of carbon dioxide (CO2).

Emma Thompson, energy-efficiency expert at E.ON, said: “Traditionally summer has been the time of year when many people expect to see a reduction in their energy bills due to the lighter nights and warmer weather.”

The energy provider urged departing holidaymakers to switch off their heating and hot water while on their summer vacations and unplug all electrical appliances at the wall.
