Isra-Mart srl news:
Johnson & Johnson is reporting double-digit reductions in carbon emissions, water use and waste, exceeding environmental goals in six areas while being on track with 2010 targets in another four key categories.
The progress is charted in Johnson & Johnson's recently released annual sustainability report, which covers the firm's efforts in 2009 involving social, economic and environmental responsibility.
The environmental section reviews Johnson & Johnson's success and challenges in meeting its Healthy Planet 2010 goals, which were set five years ago, and provides year-over-year comparisons of performance.
The report comes as the company faces increasing scruitiny about its handling of recalls of popular over-the-counter medicines last year and this past spring, including cold, allergy and pain remedies for children. J&J CEO William Weldon is scheduled to testify Thursday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and is expected to be asked whether the firm tried to avoid recalling children's Tylenol last year.
"The series of product recalls in our McNeil Consumer Healthcare business was a disappointment to us," Weldon said in his opening message in the sustainability report. "As we continue to work with the FDA, we are driven by a steadfast commitment to address the conditions that led to these recalls. There is still much work ahead, but we will do everything necessary to bring McNeil quality to the level that consumers expect of us, and that we expect of ourselves."
