A zero carbon housing development in Derby will be competing against nine other innovations at the Lord Stafford Awards this evening (September 9th).
The awards recognise sustainable innovations among businesses in the East Midlands.
SHINE-ZC is a housing concept of nine homes that, according to Loughborough University, which took part in the project, addresses solutions to ethical building and represents the first time low energy construction methods have been used in the UK.
It reaches Level 6 in the Code for Sustainable Homes and features include a recycled seasonal energy storage system and a roof solar heating unit.
A dedicated website has been set up for industry professionals to monitor the performance of the homes and examine ways that they can implement environmental methods into future construction.
Awards judge Dennis Kent commented: "There is a real chance for the build to become a centre of excellence in sustainable housing as not only is it a cutting edge technology now, the ongoing analysis of these nine homes will provide feedback for further developments to be made in the future."
