JAGUAR Land Rover will lead three multi-million pound projects aimed at helping low carbon electric cars become a reality.

It will steer groups of scientists working on high-tech research and development which could feed into the production of the cars of the future.

The department for transport yesterday announced six schemes had won a competition for a share of £24m poured into green technology.

JLR’s Halewood plant, which employs around 1,900 people, already makes the Evoque, the greenest and most fuel-efficient Range Rover ever.
