Initiatives by a Surrey council to reduce its carbon emissions have led to savings of £80,000 over the past year.
Reigate and Banstead Borough Council said the savings were due to improved energy management and reduced energy bills across buildings and services.
The biggest savings came from vehicle fleet changes, with old vehicles being replaced with more efficient ones.
Improved insulation, more efficient lighting and replacement boilers also contributed to the savings.
Councillor Julian Ellacott, executive member for environment, said the savings, between 1 April 2009 and 31 March 2010, were an excellent start to the council's carbon reduction plans.
"We were not expecting to make a real saving last year as our Carbon Management Plan was not adopted until April 2010.
"Despite this we have achieved a 2.6% reduction in carbon emissions which works out at around £80,000 of financial savings," he said.
