Isra-Mart srl news:
Companies are failing to adequately report their carbon footprint by not correctly following guidelines, Deloitte has claimed.
It examined 100 listed companies and found that a “handful” came close to complying with the government’s guidance.
The survey found that 57 per cent of companies reported some form of carbon information, with 20 per cent reporting a specific carbon emissions reduction target.
Under government rules, large organisations must report their carbon footprint as part of the CRC energy efficiency scheme, which aims to cut emissions and change behaviours.
This has led the business advisory firm to call for an overhaul of the existing carbon reporting system.
Speaking at the Green IT Expo in London, John Lunt, managing director of Certero, commented: “The tools and the need to report carbon are so new that they haven’t got the processes or the facility to actually do it.”
“Their reporting mechanisms just aren’t there, so people are doing it manually,” he added.
Government figures show large organisations are responsible for around ten per cent of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions.
