Isra-Mart srl news:

WEST Somerset Council aims to cut its carbon footprint by a fifth in five years – the equivalent of 905 double deckers full of CO2.

The authority has also pledged to reduce its carbon consumption by 10% by the end of next March as part of its Carbon Management Plan.

Cllr Chris Morgan, lead member for the environment, said: “By making relatively small changes to our lifestyles, we can all help cut carbon consumption and help preserve the planet’s precious resources.

“When organisations put their hearts into it collectively, the impact is much greater.

“We would like to see all local firms adopting more sustainable practices to reduce the impact they have on the environment for the benefit of everyone.”

The council worked with the Carbon Trust to produce its Carbon Management Plan, which sets out the steps the council will take over the next five years to reduce its carbon footprint.

Benefits of the plan include: ·empowering members and staff to take action to reduce CO2 consumption; ·enabling the council to save cash and CO2; ·understanding the organisation’s energy use so that future improvements can be adopted; ·leading by example and providing opportunities for communities and businesses to learn how they can make financial savings through cutting CO2 consumption; ·creating the opportunity to increase the council's energy resilience by producing its own heat and power through microgeneration.
