Isra-Mart srl news:

CHEAP fares outrank climate change concerns when it comes to flying in Australia.

More than 90 per cent of passengers who book online through Qantas and Jetstar decline to offset their carbon emissions, The Australian reports.

The Qantas Group's annual report revealed between 7.5 per cent and nine per cent of customers paid the extra money to offset their emissions, despite websites attempting to steer them in that direction.

The report said that 265,000 tons of carbon dioxide offset by the group's 41.4 million passengers in 2009-10 was almost four times the 73,000 tons offset by the company on behalf of its 35,700 staff.
And executives say the percentage of people taking up offsets falls by up to half when it comes to longer flights, producing bigger volumes of carbon dioxide.

The percentage of people taking up offsets on Jetstar drops to between four per cent and five per cent on long flights and sits in the six per cent to 6.5 per cent range on trans-Tasman flights.

Overall figures at Jetstar have also fallen back from more than 10 per cent since it began its offset scheme in 2007.
