Isra-Mart news:

Carbon dioxide emissions from companies in the European Union's carbon market rose 3.2 percent in 2010 as the economy recovered, in line with analyst expectations, final official data showed on Tuesday.

The EU's Emissions Trading Scheme caps the carbon output of about 12,000 factories and power plants and forces them to buy permits for each tonne of carbon they emit.

"Verified emissions of greenhouse gases from these installations totalled 1.932 billion tonnes of CO2-equivalent last year, some 3 percent higher than the 2009 level," the European Commission said in a statement.

Last month, analysts predicted a rise of between 3 and 3.6 percent, based on preliminary data.

"It can be attributed to the economic recovery following the recession, which caused an exceptional 11.6 percent fall in emissions in 2009," the Commission added.
