Isra-Mart srl news:
The Greens say regional WA will miss out on significant economic opportunites if the federal Member for O'Connor, Tony Crook, blocks the Federal Government's proposed carbon tax.
At their annual state conference on the weekend the WA Nationals left open the option of supporting a carbon price, putting them at odds with their federal counterparts.
However, Mr Crook says he would have have opposed the motion in favour of a carbon tax if a vote had been taken.
Australian Greens Senator for WA Scott Ludlum says Mr Crook seems to be misguided.
"There are enormous benefits for regional WA if we can get the transition to a clean energy economy started, whether it be through carbon farming initiatives or actual construction of a physical plant and infrastructure in regional areas," he said.
"The benefits are real and tangible and so are the jobs."
Mr Ludlum says Mr Crook should reconsider his position.
"I think the National party in the east coast has been a very important part of Tony Abbott's quite destructive campaign and I suppose I am not surprised that Mr Crook is perhaps taking some of his lead from over there," he said.
"I think he would be better off taking his lead from his WA colleagues who seem to be a bit more in tune with the reality."
