It now seems that Brits, living in London, have been doing more than ever before to reduce their city’s carbon footprint and improve their climate. According to the State of the Environment report from the capital, they found that household recycling has increased. The amount of waste sent to landfills has decreased as a result.
Not only this, but Brits have reduced their water usage through a decline in leakage and an uptake in the use of metering. Clive Coley, the Environment Agency’s regional strategy manager, said that this year’s update to the State of the Environment report shows that efforts of the people living in London is paying off. People are seeing the results of their hard work sooner rather than later.
He went on to add that this report shows that people need to continue to make strides to help manage and protect the capital’s vital resources. This report highlights that London’s carbon footprint is lower than the UK average. A lot of this has to do with lower emissions from transport due to a higher use of public transport in the city.
Overall, the UK is trying to get all cities to take the same steps that people in London are making. The government seems to think that if everyone follows this same approach, then they will be able to reach their carbon emissions goal.
Despite how far the UK, as a whole, has come in reducing carbon emissions, there is still a long way to go. However, experts are asking people to not lose hope and continue doing their part to help the environment.
