The Bowen Pastoral Agricultural Association in north Queensland will get a State Government grant to turn its annual show into a low-carbon event.
The Bowen Show will use the $10,000 to include a children's program and produce displays and cooking demonstrations at the June event.
Association president Jane Benson says residents will be encouraged to use local produce to reduce their carbon footprint.
"If you buy a piece of fruit that's grown in the Whitsundays, it hasn't travelled very far," Ms Benson said.
"Whereas if you buy some fruit that was grown in the USA then it's travelled an awful long way.
"A lot of people in our community grow things in the backyard so we'll also actually be doing cooking demonstrations on 'if you've grown a tomato in your backyard, this is what you can do with it'."
Ms Benson says there will also be shows on how to grow your own vegetables, as well as a poultry section.
