isramart news: Wong defends climate change policy

Isramart news:

Climate Change Minister Penny Wong has defended the government's position on climate change, saying the best way to protect the environment is for senators to support the carbon emissions trading scheme, to reduce greenhouse gasses.

The minister's responding to protests yesterday by thousands of people across the nation, who oppose the government's climate change policies.

People blockaded the prime minister's office in Sydney, and there were protests in Melbourne and other major cities.

The protesters want the government's proposed emissions scheme ditched in favour of an alternative dubbed Plan B, which includes the phasing out of coal-fired power stations, and a move towards renewable energy by 2020
