Isra-Mart srl news:

Uncommon Good is an on-profit organization that helps fight against poverty in their local community of Claremont, Calif. The organization works to break the poverty cycle in families as well as benefit the earth through sustainable means. Uncommon Good takes things a step further by creating a new superadobe building that will benefit the residents of Claremont and the earth.

Until recently, the Uncommon Good used a free office space provided by Our Lady of the Assumption Church. However, thanks to new grants coming in, the the Uncommon Good organization plans to build new offices made from natural adobe and construct from earth-friendly building materials.

Using the superadobe process which was created by the late world-renowned environmental architect, Nader Khalili; the Uncommon Good’s new office space will bring new life to the area and show others how to build and construct with sustainability in mind.

The Claremont United Methodist Church has donated land for the new built to be built upon. Using earth taken from the site, the building designers plan to make this a zero-carbon structure. The main building will be created using onsite dirt that will be shoveled into biodegradable bags.

The bags will then be stacked to create the walls and support of the building. The designers plan to not use any steel or other materials that require energy to produce. They will also forgo wood, to avoid the destruction of old growth forests.

The new building will rely on the thick adobe walls to provide adequate heating and cooling. Wind scoops will provide additional cooling during the hot summer months, and triple glazed windows will help prevent heat from getting in.

Solar panels and a solar thermal system are planned to be used to provide electricity and hot water to the rooms inside the building. The builders are also planning on installing a solar oven inside the new building rather than using standard cooking methods.

When completed, the building will boost a complete green-landscape inside and out with drought tolerant, native plant, wildlife habitat landscaping and a roof-top garden. Uncommon Good won’t stop at just how they make their new office space green. Plans to decorate the building include interior furniture, flooring, and cabinets all made from sustainable materials.
