Isramart news:
Sweden is the first European country that will adopt compulsory indication on labels of CO2 contained in foods (the so-called “carbon footprint, that is CO2 emissions caused by the production process).A reduction up to 50% of CO2 emissions in the country is thus expected.
The new legislation taking into account foods’ environmental respect will not only appear on labels in supermarket and stores, but also in restaurants and canteens’ menus.
Eating carrots instead of cucumbers or tomatoes, for instance, would be more ecological according to the Swedish guidelines – Freshplaza.it reports – since carrots are not grown in greenhouses at controlled temperature consuming lot of energy.
Also, chicken meat or beans are more advisable than red meat: livestocks release huge quantities of gases in the air. While eating fish – though being healthy – is not recommendable because European fishery stocks are almost over.
