Isramart: Firms embracing carbon tracking scheme

Isramart news:
A group of UK firms are trialling a new scheme which will see their greenest members of staff being rewarded with financial bonuses.

WSP Environment & Energy is behind the personal allowance carbon tracking scheme, which involves staff members who sign up being given targets relating to both their domestic and transport-related carbon emissions.

Anyone exceeding this target will be given a small fine, while individuals who come in under their limit will be given a cash bonus. All fines and bonuses are capped at £100.

Speaking to BusinessGreen.com, WSP's director David Symons said that around 650 staff members have signed up since the scheme's launch in 2007, and early indicators suggest that they have cut their emissions by around 10%.

Following on from this success, several other firms, including Invensys Rail and Green Power Conference, are starting up similar schemes of their own from March and WSP hopes to have around 30 firms involved in trials by the end of the year.

Mr Symons told the news provider that there is the freedom for each firm to alter the scheme to best suit their needs, for example some companies choose to scrap the fines and simply offer incentives.

The Carbon Trust is currently offering businesses free Carbon Surveys so they can see how and where they are wasting energy and set themselves new emissions targets.
