Isra-Mart news:
The federal government has ordered a a detailed risk assessment of its greenhouse programs to be undertaken after concerns were raised of their vulnerability to fraud, according to The Australian newspaper.
According to the report, a number of scams overseas has pushed Climate Change Minister Greg Combet to call for a review of the way the schemes, including greenhouse registries and the planned Carbon Farming Initiative, are handled.
Documents obtained by The Australian show concern over the ability of climate registries to be the victim of fraud.
"Cyber attacks on the European Union emissions trading scheme highlight the potential threats to climate change registries in Australia and the need for effective security and anti-fraud measures to safeguard the integrity of the programs they support," a February Climate Change department report said.
