A typical iPhone will generate 25kg of CO2 per year. This may not sound like much but when you consider that there are over 1 billion mobile phones on our planet, this quickly adds up. The Carbon Offset program allows you to easily offset the CO2 produced from your phone.

Carbon Dioxide is produced as a byproduct of Coal Fired Electricity generation. It is a major contributor to the Green House effect and Global Warming. Trees need Carbon to grow; as such they soak in Carbon Dioxide and produce Oxygen as a by-product. This means that by planting more trees, we can counteract or "offset" the act of producing the electricity. For every action that causes CO2 to be produced you can offset that action somewhere else to create a balance.

Intunity, a small boutique IT Consulting company operating out of Fitzroy in Melbourne has devised a Carbon Offset iPhone application which will offset the CO2 produced from your phone.

When you purchase the iPhone Offset app, Intunity will purchase Carbon Offset credits to ensures that the CO2 generated to recharge your iPhone (averaging 25kg of CO2 per annum) will be offset via forestry and carbon saving credits certified under the New South Wales Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme (NGAS).

This is achieved by projects such as planting trees, creating wind farms or investing in renewable energy projects throughout the world.

The new Intunity iPhone application allows you to advertise the fact that you care about the environment and to see the progress of the savings in the iPhone community.
