Isramart : Chevron, Shell facilities top CO2 emitters

Isramart news:
Chevron’s Richmond oil refinery was California’s largest emitter of greenhouse gases last year and the nearby Shell refinery in Martinez a close second, the state Air Resource Board said in a report.

The state agency said the Chevron facility pumped out 4.8 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and related greenhouse gases, with Shell emitting 4.5 million metric tons.

In all, Northern California made up half of the top 10 emitters, including the Dynegy Power Plant near Monterey Bay; the Valero refinery in Benicia and the Tesoro refinery in Martinez.

Large industrial power users and utilities are required to report their total emissions under Assembly Bill 32, approved in 2005. But it’s the first time the Air Resources Board has tallied the results by facility and released the results.p
